Animal Welfare Labelling Policy Options

This report was undertaken for DG SANCO by the Food Chain Evaluation Consortium. It consists of two parts, the first includes a description of the current use of existing animal welfare labelling schemes, defines policy options for indicating animal welfare related information on products of animal origin, and assesses the feasibility of the policy options and their direct and indirect economic, social and environmental impacts. The second part of the study includes a description of the existing Community bodies, public bodies and private institutes dealing with animal welfare related issues, a definition of refined policy options for establishing a Community Reference Centre for Animal Protection and Welfare, and an assessment of the feasibility of the policy options.
