Economic evaluation of stage II and III ESAs
13/08/1997
Economic evaluation of the regions designated under the second and third stages of the environmentally sensitive area schemes.  The project focused on examining the potential impact of possible changes to the scheme on participants.  It examined impact on farm output, use of inputs, production, yields, non-farm activities and income.  Scenarios examined included the discontinuation of the scheme, changes to the nature of the scheme and changes in the level of payments.  It also examined problems identified with the scheme, impact on farmland not entered in the scheme (e.g., common land) and reasons why farmers in ESA regions have not joined the scheme.
