Trade barriers for processed foods in Mercosur, Chile, Central and Eastern Europe
06/01/2001
This study on the identification and analysis of trade barriers for processed food and drinks in East Europe, Russia and Latin America was carried out for the European Commission, DG Trade.  The study focused on non-tariff barriers to trade, and provided the Commission with specific cases for action to correct problems in trading with these countries.  The analysis covered a range of non-tariff barriers and in particular focused on technical standards specific to the food industry such as in the fields of product certification and conformity assessment, additives, labelling, packaging and geographical indications/brand protection.  The analysis also covered a range of potentially restrictive investment related measures including direct foreign investment limitations, profit repatriation and direct taxation.
