Research into a common basic environmental standard for EU agriculture
06/01/1998
This project examined the scope for developing EU wide standards for agri-environmental management practices. Research was undertaken to identify the main types of management practices applicable to different habitats, landscapes and environments across the EU to see whether there were similarities between them. This entailed a thorough review of existing standards and agri-environment programmes in the UK, France, Germany, Denmark and Italy. This was then used as a base for testing amongst key players in the EU (eg, agri-environmental groups, government departments, farmer organisations) whether there was scope for developing an EU wide approach for common environmental standards for inclusion in future policy developments.
