The gap between producer prices and the prices paid by the consumer
20/10/2007
This study provides an understanding of the gap between agricultural producer prices in the EU and the prices paid by the consumer for a range of food products (milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, and fruit and vegetables) between 2003 and 2005. The extent of price divergence and its development over the period was analysed. This involved an examination of the main factors contributing to the divergence between the two price series. From this analysis, economic and commercial propositions aimed at improving the situation of producer income were developed.
