25/06/2007
This project for DG SANCO provided an analysis of the current situation and the economic, social and possible environmental consequences of the current stunning and killing practices used in slaughterhouses in order to feed into the review of the slaughterhouse Directive. It involved a comprehensive postal survey of slaughterhouses in the red meat and poultry sectors, interviews with equipment manufacturers and key stakeholders and case studies in 13 of the EU-25 to provide in-depth analysis of current slaughter practice and likely consequences of alternative methods.
